# 76 · 愚人节

### 第1段

'To end our special news bulletin,' said the voice of the television announcer, 'we're going over to the macaroni fields of Calabria. Macaroni has been grown in this area for over six hundred years. Two of the leading growers, Giuseppe Moldova and Riccardo Brabante, tell me that they have been expecting a splendid crop this year and harvesting has begun earlier than usual. Here you can see two workers who, between them, have just finished cutting three cartloads of golden brown macaroni stalks. The whole village has been working day and night gathering and threshing this year's crop before the September rains. On the right, you can see Mrs. Brabante herself. She has been helping her husband for thirty years now. Mrs. Brabante is talking to the manager of the local factory where the crop is processed. This last scene shows you what will happen at the end of the harvest: the famous Calabrian macaroni-eating competition! Signor Fratelli, the present champion, has won it every year since 1991. And that ends our special bulletin for today, Thursday, April 1 st. We're now going back to the studio.'

* **a splendid crop**：极好的收成；crop指一季作物或收成；本课属于愚人节虚构报道。

* **earlier than usual**：比往常更早；usual指平常的标准，不需要再加the。

* **day and night**：日夜不停地；表示不分昼夜、持续进行，连同它修饰的动作一起记。

* **On the right**：在右边；方位用on；与right正确的词义区分。

* **at the end of**：在……结束或末端时；明确哪件事的末尾；in the end 则强调最终结果。

* **going back to**：返回……；back强调返回，home等副词前省to。

#### 'To end our special news bulletin,' said the voice of the television announcer, 'we're going over to the macaroni fields of Calabria.

简单句，主谓结构. 句子最开始是一个目的状语. bulletin 是简报的意思，bullet 是子弹的意思，可以顺便积累词汇. 全文都是新闻播报的内容，这一段小内容也就是一个简报了. 为了愚人节的效果，整段新闻都是编造的，说通心粉大家可能没感觉，换个说法，比如告诉你，我们目前来到了面条田里，是不是感觉就出来了？

#### Macaroni has been grown in this area for over six hundred years.

简单句，主谓结构，这里是被动语态，通心粉被种植在田地里，那么翻译时可以用主动语态，在此耕种即可.

#### Two of the leading growers, Giuseppe Moldova and Riccardo Brabante, tell me that they have been expecting a splendid crop this year and harvesting has begun earlier than usual.

复合句，主句为主谓宾 + 宾语从句，tell 接双宾语，后面that 引导的宾语从句为并列句，两句一起构成这个宾语从句，都是大户们所讲的内容. 本句leading growers 直接按中文习惯以耕种大户表达即可，译为“主要种植者”也不必然表示另有“次要种植者”；此处“大户”更贴近中文习惯，但不宜据此判定另一种译法错误。

#### Here you can see two workers who, between them, have just finished cutting three cartloads of golden brown macaroni stalks.

复合句，主句为主谓宾结构，后面有一个who 引导的定语从句，为主谓宾结构. 定语从句中，有一个小的插入语，额外解释了一下是两人通力合作，between 在此处为介词，意思是by putting together the efforts or actions of two or more people or groups. 这里stalk 本来指庄稼那种稻穗之类的梗秸，可其实不存在结通心粉的梗秸，只能硬编了.

#### The whole village has been working day and night gathering and threshing this year's crop before the September rains.

简单句，主谓结构，before the September rains 是时间状语，这里不能理解为从句，比如误以为the September rains\[本处划分为错误示范]，这里rains 是名词，指雨季，这里的时间状语在本质上是before sth. 根据牛津词典：the rains \[pl.复数] the season of heavy continuous rain in tropical countries（热带地区的）雨季，例：The rains come \[in September]. 雨季九月份开始.

教材中的翻译又写成把庄稼收割上来，上句说了，没有这样的庄稼，所以我们在翻译时还是要继续强调是收割通心粉，而不是庄稼.

#### Mrs. Brabante is talking to the manager of the local factory where the crop is processed.

复合句，主句主谓结构，后面是一个where 引导的定语从句，修饰工厂，表明是在这里进行加工的.

#### This last scene shows you what will happen at the end of the harvest: the famous Calabrian macaroni-eating competition!

复合句，主句主谓宾 + 宾语从句结构，后面是what 引导的宾语从句，在该从句中what 本身作从句的主语.

#### Signor Fratelli, the present champion, has won it every year since 1991.

简单句，主谓宾结构，后面有一个since 1991作时间状语，自1991年以来一直如此.

#### And that ends our special bulletin for today, Thursday, April 1 st. We're now going back to the studio.'

简单句，主谓宾结构，这里end 作动词用，使结束.
