# 拓展 · 到底几点了？

People often collect things. Stamps, books and records are fairly common. But the strangest collection I have ever seen belongs to a man who has 1,500 clocks. There are clocks in every room of his house. The living room is lined with shelves which have been filled with clocks. As there is not enough room for so many clocks, the man has filled several trucks and stored them in the garage. His wife complains every day about the work she has to do, for it is not easy to dust several hundred clocks. She also complains about the noise. Each clock keeps its own time, so chimes can be heard almost any time during the day and night. In her opinion, however, there is something even worse than dust and noise. Even with so many clocks around, she never knows what time it is!

中文理解：人们常会收集自己喜欢的东西，邮票、书和唱片都很常见。不过，有个人收藏了一千五百座钟，这是我见过最奇特的收藏。 他家每个房间都有钟，客厅里排满了架子，架子上又全摆着钟。 屋里实在放不下这么多钟，他又装满了几辆货车，停在车库里。 妻子每天抱怨要干的活太多，毕竟给好几百座钟擦灰可不容易。她也嫌吵。每座钟走的时间都不一样，白天黑夜，几乎随时都能听见报时声。 不过在她看来，还有一件比灰尘和噪声更糟的事：身边明明有这么多钟，她却始终不知道准确时间！

* **belongs to**：属于；belong不使用被动形式，也不常用进行时。

* **lined with**：两旁排列着；内侧衬着；本课指墙边摆满架子，不是画线。

* **filled with**：装满；充满；说明被什么装满或充满；filled 是过去分词，with 引出内容。

* **not enough room**：没有足够空间；room在这里不可数，指空间，不是房间数。

* **day and night**：日夜不停地；表示不分昼夜、持续进行，连同它修饰的动作一起记。

* **In her opinion**：在她看来；表示个人判断，不能直接当作已证实事实。

#### People often collect things.

简单句，主谓宾结构，表示经常发生的事情.

#### Stamps, books and records are fairly common.

简单句，主系表结构.

#### But the strangest collection I have ever seen belongs to a man who has 1,500 clocks.

复合句，主句主谓宾结构，一般现在时. 有一个省略了that 的定语从句修饰 collection，主谓结构，现在完成时have done；句末是who 引导的定语从句修饰man，主谓宾结构.

#### There are clocks in every room of his house.

there be 句型.

#### The living room is lined with shelves which have been filled with clocks.

复合句，主句主谓结构，这里line 用作动词，排列. 后面是which 引导的定语从句，主谓结构.

#### As there is not enough room for so many clocks, the man has filled several trucks and stored them in the garage.

复合句，主句是并列句，and 连接前后两句，前句为主谓宾结构，has filled 是现在完成时，表示他已把几辆卡车装满，并非 have + 宾语 + 过去分词的使役结构；后句省略了主语的主谓宾结构. 句首是as 引导的原因状语从句，there be 句型.

#### His wife complains every day about the work she has to do, for it is not easy to dust several hundred clocks.

并列复合句，for 作并列连词，前句为复合句，主句为主谓宾结构，complain about 动词词组作谓语，后面跟了一个省略了that 的定语从句；后句为主系表结构，it 是形式主语，to dust 不定式短语作真正的主语，我们可以进行细分to dust several hundred clocks. 在这里dust 作动词，to remove dirt，擦去灰尘.

#### She also complains about the noise.

简单句，主谓宾结构.

#### Each clock keeps its own time, so chimes can be heard almost any time during the day and night.

并列句，so 作连词，前句为主谓宾结构，后句为主谓结构，被动语态.

#### In her opinion, however, there is something even worse than dust and noise.

there be 句型.

#### Even with so many clocks around, she never knows what time it is!

复合句，主句主谓 + what 引导的宾语从句结构，该从句为主系表结构.
