* **access to information**
* **face-to-face interaction**
* **excessive screen time**

> Digital communication can maintain relationships across distance, although it cannot replace every form of personal contact.

Smartphones can improve relationships when they help people stay in touch across distance. A short call or a shared photo can let family members feel involved in one another's daily lives, even when they live far apart. However, more messages do not always mean a closer relationship. Checking a phone throughout a meal may reduce the attention given to the person sitting nearby. Digital contact is most useful when it supports, rather than constantly interrupts, meaningful face-to-face interaction.

* **stay in touch**：保持联系；常接 with someone；不是 stay contact。

* **a closer relationship**：更亲近的关系；close 表示亲近程度，与 message 数量是不同维度。

* **the attention given to**：给予某人的关注；attention 后用 to 指向对象；不写 attention on someone 表达给予关注。

* **face-to-face interaction**：面对面交流；face-to-face 作前置修饰语使用连字符。

  Short calls can help people maintain personal connections across distance.

* **give someone your full attention**：专心关注某人

  Putting the phone away helps you give someone your full attention.

  Excessive screen time can leave less room for shared activities.

A short call or a shared photo can let family members feel involved in one another's daily lives, even when they live far apart.

A can help people + verb + even when + difficult condition.

Shared notes can help colleagues cooperate even when they work in different places.

However, more messages do not always mean a closer relationship.

More A does not always mean better B.

More videos do not always mean a better understanding.

Digital contact is most useful when it supports, rather than constantly interrupts, meaningful face-to-face interaction.

A is useful when it supports, rather than interrupts, B.

Technology is useful when it supports, rather than interrupts, classroom discussion.

Do smartphones improve social relationships?

使用may、can、where或for some people等表达时，要说明具体条件。
