> Foreign visitors should pay more than local visitors for cultural and historical attractions. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this opinion?

It is sometimes suggested that foreign tourists should be charged higher entrance fees than local residents when visiting cultural and historical attractions. However, I completely disagree with this notion.

One argument in favor of imposing higher prices on international visitors is that many cultural and historical sites rely on government subsidies for maintenance, meaning that local taxpayers already contribute to their upkeep. While this may seem reasonable, I believe it is a narrow-sighted approach. Foreign tourists significantly boost the host country’s economy through their spending on accommodation, food, transport, and souvenirs. Their contributions extend far beyond entrance fees, making them valuable to the overall financial ecosystem. Instead of viewing them as a financial burden, governments should appreciate their economic input and ensure that cultural sites remain accessible to all visitors.

Additionally, imposing higher charges on international tourists could deter them from visiting certain destinations. If travelers perceive a country as unwelcoming due to discriminatory pricing, they may choose alternative destinations where they feel more valued. For example, a family comparing two holiday destinations may choose the one where visiting cultural attractions is more affordable. Equal admission charges can help visitors feel welcome and encourage them to explore more of the local heritage. Conversely, if foreign visitors were subjected to higher fees, the tourism sector could suffer, potentially leading to a decline in revenue and fewer resources for site preservation.

In conclusion, maintaining equal entrance fees for both local and foreign visitors fosters tourism growth, economic benefits, and cultural appreciation. Introducing discriminatory pricing would likely discourage international tourists and ultimately be counterproductive.

* **entrance fees**：门票费用；charge / pay entrance fees，写收费的对象时加 for 或 to enter。

* **local taxpayers**：当地纳税人；taxpayers 指纳税者，不是所有游客。

* **financial burden**：经济负担；a financial burden on someone，说明由谁承担。

* **site preservation**：景点保护；与 funding、resources for 连用，将门票政策连接到保护工作。

* **admission charges**：入场收费；与 entrance fees 可在本情境替换，保留收费这一含义。

  Higher charges may discourage visitors from exploring smaller museums.

  Admission fees can help cover maintenance costs.

  Museums could offer discounted admission to students.

If travelers perceive a country as unwelcoming due to discriminatory pricing, they may choose alternative destinations where they feel more valued.

If evening buses are unreliable, commuters may choose to drive.

Instead of viewing them as a financial burden, governments should appreciate their economic input and ensure that cultural sites remain accessible to all visitors.

  结构：Instead of + -ing, 主语 + should + 动词.

Instead of replacing every old building, cities should preserve those with cultural value.

Additionally, imposing higher charges on international tourists could deter them from visiting certain destinations.

  结构：… could deter + 人 + from + -ing.

High course fees could deter adults from returning to education.

> A family choosing between destinations may prefer the one where cultural attractions are more affordable.

:::

Should non-residents pay higher fees to use public leisure centres?

> Foreign visitors should pay more than local visitors for cultural and historical attractions. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this opinion?
