> Some people think that all teenagers should be required to do unpaid work in their free time to help the local community. They believe this would benefit both the individual teenager and society as a whole. Do you agree or disagree?

Volunteering is a valuable experience for young people, and it can bring benefits to both individuals and society. However, I strongly disagree with the idea of mandating unpaid work for all teenagers during their free time.

Firstly, teenagers are already under significant pressure due to their academic commitments. Modern education often demands as much effort as a full-time job, with students expected to attend lessons, complete assignments, and prepare for exams. Introducing the additional responsibility of unpaid work would only further strain their limited time. Instead, it is essential to encourage teenagers to use their free time for relaxation, socializing with friends, or engaging in extracurricular activities like sports, which contribute to their well-being and personal growth. They will have plenty of time to contribute to society once they have completed their studies and entered the workforce.

Secondly, mandating unpaid work for teenagers may not be in society's best interest. In a free and democratic society, individuals should not be compelled to participate in activities against their will. Requiring teenagers to volunteer could foster resentment, as many may feel coerced into doing something they do not want to do. This could also create tension between young people and their parents, who might oppose external interference in how they raise their children. Volunteering should remain a choice, as it encourages genuine interest and a sense of fulfillment, rather than obligation.

In conclusion, while volunteering can be beneficial, I believe that making it compulsory for all teenagers is neither fair nor necessary. Teenagers should be free to decide for themselves whether they wish to contribute to their communities in this way.

* **academic commitments**：学业任务；academic commitments 指需要投入时间的学习责任。

* **extracurricular activities**：课外活动；engage in extracurricular activities，说明具体类型。

* **entered the workforce**：进入职场；enter the workforce；本题完成时形式保留原句。

* **against their will**：违背他们的意愿；compel someone to do something against their will。

* **a sense of fulfillment**：满足感；gain / experience a sense of fulfillment，与真实兴趣联系。

* **make a voluntary contribution**：自愿作出贡献

  Students should be able to make a voluntary contribution to their community.

  Teenagers often face academic pressure during exam periods.

  Young people need time to balance competing demands.

Requiring teenagers to volunteer could foster resentment, as many may feel coerced into doing something they do not want to do.

  结构：Requiring + 人 + to do… could…

Requiring employees to work every weekend could reduce motivation.

They will have plenty of time to contribute to society once they have completed their studies and entered the workforce.

  结构：… will… once + 主语 + have / has + 过去分词.

Graduates will have more options once they have gained practical experience.

Teenagers should be free to decide for themselves whether they wish to contribute to their communities in this way.

  结构：… should decide whether + 主语 + 动词.

Students should decide whether they wish to join optional clubs.

be required to与choose to区分义务和选择；voluntary不能与compulsory混用。

> Although community service can be valuable, it should not be compulsory for every teenager.

:::

All university students should be required to join sports clubs. Do you agree or disagree?

> Some people think that all teenagers should be required to do unpaid work in their free time to help the local community. They believe this would benefit both the individual teenager and society as a whole. Do you agree or disagree?
